Kelly S. Clemens, PhD

Kelly received a B.S. in Education from Central Michigan University, a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University in Rochester, MI before receiving an M.A. and Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Toledo in Toledo, OH. She is currently an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Illinois State University in the Social/IO sequence. Her research sits at the intersection of health and social psychology, and focuses on how cognitive and affective processes impact treatment-related behaviors (e.g., uptake, adherence, and perceptions) and outcomes (e.g., placebo and nocebo effects). She is currently particularly interested in health behaviors in the LGBTQIA+ community.

John Matkovic, PhD

John received his B.S. in Microbiology and Master’s of Public Health from Michigan State University before receiving his PhD in Health Education from the University of Toledo. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences at Illinois State University in the Health Promotion program. His research considers the influence of psychological and behavioral factors on college student health, as well as behavioral interventions to promote disease prevention. He is currently most interested phone use behavior and how this relates to student feelings of belonging and mental health.
